Michigan State University season opener against Western Michigan pregame

Its game day Spartans. The last of summer is here and we are holding on to it dearly as we head into the gauntlet of fall. The Michigan Wolverines seem to have high expectations and a buzz about that I know we will love to spoil. Michigan state has much to prove as well with a boost needed on the defensive side of the ball to take the next step. Who will replace the electricity of Kenneth walker this year? How does Payton Thorne take his game to the next level? There are no shortage of questions heading into the year, the answers may start coming today against western Michigan.

We start this trek towards the Championship, one game at a time though, we are taking this season game by game. Western Michigan from Kalamazoo Michigan are a formidable opponent even though they are currently +21 at the time of writing this. I’m not necessarily looking at Western this game but more about what MSU’s defense is bringing this year. Will they be able to get off the field in three? The secondary was lifted by the transfer portal this offseason by some nice recruits, I’m hoping they are enough to at the very least lift us into the top half of college football. The offense has a few questions to answer as well, the biggest being who will be replacing Kenneth walker. While I don’t expect a 75-yard run to start the game (it would be nice though), who can move the chains in a consistent manner. I believe Thorne and Reed will pick up where they left off surprising many in the college football world this season. The game today won’t turn heads, it’s a game MSU is supposed to win and by a lot. Let’s see what Mel has been chopping up all summer and where this teams ceiling is.
