Michigan State Basketball and the Journey Ahead

The season is upon us and yes, I am talking about the McRib being back. Oh, wait wrong place for that of course I am talking about College Basketball being back. Like almost every year we shift our focus to the Champions Classic where Michigan State and third ranked Kansas face off, after which Duke and Kentucky play. From what I have read, this year may be a headache for us Spartan fans. If you are like me then we are still hungover from the Cassius Winston era, not believing that it was gone before we won a National Championship. I am still convinced had Covid not come around we would have won his senior year. After last year’s finish people are putting us behind the pack, and like many people out there I agree with this assessment, but not for the same reasons. I put us behind because we play better with that mindset, Michigan State lost its first game and it wasn’t close. But put a brick on the ground because that is what we needed to start laying the foundation for the season. I believe we have the pieces to make a run this year I really do, but enough with the speeches let’s talk about the Kansas game.

Kansas 87 MSU 74

What went wrong:

Turnovers lost us that game, yes Kansas has better talent even without their best player. In college basketball that doesn’t lose you the game, just ask any Cinderella Tournament team ever. Kansas won that game by being decisive and knowing where to attack, kudos to them but I’m sure Izzo will make switches if we play again. Sixteen turnovers are too many, keep the ball and control the game, we win going forward.

What we did well:

Hoggard, that’s what went well, 17 points and confidence going into the season. Just what we need for this team, I also believe we started building confidence in our playbook and the ability to see where adjustments need to be made. We know from previous years, Izzo will tinker with this lineup, don’t worry it will happen.

Looking Ahead:

Western Michigan is on Friday. Will be another opportunity for our squad to push forward and grow. We win by double digits but more importantly we focus in on our playbook and chemistry together.

Go Green! Go White!
