Which Wich Sandwiches
Which Wich Review
I stepped over the threshold mere seconds after they opened and was greeted by a friendly face. The confusion must have been painted over my face as I was asked almost instantly if I need help ordering a sandwich. Why the confusion, you ask? Well Which Wich sandwiches have changed the ordering process. Its not ingredients hiding behind a clear partition or a group of predetermined sandwiches (at least not the most popular way to order). As I walked in to try their Italian sub, which is how I judge any submarine establishment, I let the employee know this was all I was looking for. She ushered me to the selection of bags and asked if I wanted to build from scratch or have their pre selected Italian submarine. While I was in no rush and could have built a sandwich, I opted to try the way this establishment believes in building a sandwich. I placed an order for the Grinder, paid, and then waited 5-10 minutes before getting the sandwich and leaving.
A quick sidebar here to complain about the ordering, it was way too complicated. There were like 7-12 different bags that you could choose from, each one offering a different protein option I presume. I’m not sure exactly as my confusion was quickly helped out by the employee also the fact that I wanted a basic Italian sub. I mean add a kiosk to order on a screen or offer predetermined sandwiches and let people adjust. Im not sure, all I know is that it was confusing and I didn't like it. I was also not able to add to my sandwich as the bag didn't have a section to add items. I usually like an Italian sub with hot peppers (since people are too soft to have the spicy as standard, the way I would do it), but was unable to do that in this instance.
The Grinder was served on White bread as this was the only thing I selected. The sandwich was stuffed with Genoa Salami, Pepperoni, Spicy Capicola, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Red Onions, Oil and Vinegar.
The first bite left me with two thoughts, this meat may be the best quality meat I have had at a chain sub shop and the other one being that the ratio of the sandwich seemed to favor bread. I’m not joking when I say the meat was flavorful to the point I could taste each individual meat and I would say it compared to a local spot. The vegetables were fresh and the normal oil/vinegar combo was a pleasant surprise. The bread was crispy on the edges, it just seemed to be overwhelming. Not sure if it was due to volume or maybe it was a better quality, those questions are for people with better palates than me.
I also had one of their cookies which was tasty and satisfying for a sub shop. Not better than places that focus on cookies but good enough to be happy with the cookie.
To sum up my experience, this places gets it. Good quality sandwiches that are flavorful. I could sit and complain about the ordering process (see above for complaints) but for this I will stick to the food. Worth visiting if you have one near you.
The location I went to is in Chesterfield, MO.
