Modelo Wins Blind Beer Tasting?

This started in the back seat of an uber after a night out with the boys. One of my friends aired out his disgust for Miller light and everyone joined in, which got me thinking. Would they even be able to detect the different beers from each other? Thus started the tasting we would have two rounds, the first being light US domestics due to the uber ride and a second round of Mexican beers that I threw in because I believed that would be my best chance to show off my tasting skills. So, the tasting began:

Beer tasting

1st round: Bud Light, Coors light, Miller light, and Pittsburgh local IC light

2nd round: Corona Extra, Dos Equis, Modelo, Tecate

The rules were simple, we each tried one of each beer and write down our guess. At the end of the tasting we say which one is our favorite. We had someone serving us the beers one at a time but not telling us what they were until after the round was complete.

The first four beers did not have great results for the group, the most accurate only getting two of the four correct. I went a terrible zero for four. But knew going in I wasn’t going to fare well. The real surprise for me was that I said that Coors Light was my favorite based on taste, where going in I thought it was Miller light. The funny thing was the guys that swore by Coors light ended up in the tasting having Bud light as their favorite, yet they fail to recognize this enlightenment still saying Coors Light is their favorite.

The second group was what I thought it would be, complete domination by yours truly. Going four for four in the tasting was an amazing feeling that confirmed that I was the best at knowing the Mexican Cervezas. Modelo was my favorite (as I knew it would be going into the tasting). Corona was probably the easiest of the bunch to determine as it had the most distinct smell profile and taste was prevalent, more people guessed this beer correctly than didn’t.
