McDonald’s McRib 2024 Review
Complacency, why is it when companies get so big they forget what got them there? They throw out the book, containing the gameplay in an effort to make money. They take away menu items that people love to create a subconscious thought process that has one believing these items are rare in nature. When in fact they could be on the menu year round, where they would be seen for the disgusting creations they are. Does it mean they are good though? In 2023 McDonald’s announced that the McRib would be coming back for one last time. I being the the savvy food blogger I am, rushed out to try it, because how could I let this opportunity go by so fast, I couldn’t. Rushing over I tried this sandwich just to be disappointed in a way I thought was impossible. Its on me, hand up to think that this behemoth corporation would give the respect to BBQ in the way it needs. I resent myself for going out and getting it. But i had to try it and was of course disappointed.
Fast forward to this year and I woke up a few weeks ago to the surprise that the McRib was coming back. The clown has done it once again, pulled the bag over my head, turned me around, and left me with egg on my face for believing that 2023 would be the last year for this sandwich. The McRib is built off a simple design, a combination of pork cogged together in a patty form set to resemble a a rack of ribs. Slather that in BBQ sauce, throw some pickles on top and some uncooked white onions and put it all on a soft elongated bun. Its not much, but in theory it doesn't have to be.
I ordered two, one for me and one for the person accompanying me this day, we rushed home to try them. Upon opening, I was horrified to an extent no horror movie could come close to, seeing the bun upside down, onion laid out on the bottom of the carton and an unsauced patty staring me in the face. When I say no sauce, there was maybe a half stroke of a brush that was added to this sandwich. It was insulting, hell I am still insulted days later writing this. The taste was horrendous, what is normally covered up by sauce spewing out of the sandwich came to the forefront and I now know why it is slathered in sauce. Some might say this location was a one off but for the moment being, I don't see myself going back for a McRib quite possible in my lifetime.
I sat there with this unsauced sandwich and the thought occurred after every bite, that I should stop. There is no reason to finish this, it wont matter, but for you the readers I took the bite by bite approach to finish so I could confidently say this sandwich was bad from end to end and you the readers can trust that I give every review the same reference and allow the chance for an items score to be based on the full item, not just the first few bites. There was no good bite in this sandwich, just every bite making me feel worse and worse with the flavor killing me a little more on the inside as I made my way through the sandwich. My stomach was upset for hours following the consumption of this monstrosity, but dammit I do this for you the readers so you can trust my integrity.
The person accompanying me had the thought that Ronald was tied up in the back and this restaurant went rogue, but I truly believe this is just the sad state of affairs this place is in to try and boost Q4 profits. Slapping together anything they want, taking advantage of our nostalgia when this chain can give two shits. I will be taking a beat from fast food and when I do come back it wont be to the clown, or the king both have made me feel horrible, rethinking decisions in every facet of my life.
This sandwich was a 0.2 out of ten, those .2 points coming only from some crisp pickles which I cant help but give it a little bit of a score. Please, this is a cry for McDonald’s, Do Better, Be Better, either take this off permanently or rethink the execution on a scale that will line up with your footprint before the next launch. This was a disappointment to the highest regard.
