Jersey Mikes Sub Shop

Jersey Mikes

Seeing the meat sliced right in front of you was a welcome change from most sub shops including chains that seem to opt for efficiency over this old practice. There were a few things that I enjoyed about this shop, the fresh ingredients placed on your sandwich in front of you, the friendly staff, and getting my sub done mikes way. Whats mikes way you ask? It is the addition of spices, including oregano, also adding oil and vinegar with the vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, and onions). The amount of Oil and vinegar they put on was borderline too much but somehow worked so well, but did make the sub a little soggy. The bread I opted for was the rosemary parmesan which was flavor filled and added flavor that wasn't needed but was appreciated. I ordered two subs, with my thoughts on both below:

#13 The Original Italian with hot chopped pepper relish

Website Description: Provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami, and pepperoni. Nothing says Jersey Mike's more than our Original Italian sub. A truly authentic Jersey-style Italian sub, it's crafted with provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami, and pepperoni. Order a giant Original Italian sub Mike's Way for one truly memorable experience.

This sandwich was piled high in front of me with the meat and cheese then topped mikes way and I added the pepper relish. Comparing it to the other chain Italian subs, it was flavorful, filling, and hit my craving for an Italian sub. Was it the best sub I have ever had? No, but it was close and may very well be the best I have had from a chain. The addition of spices they put on added a breath of freshness that is not customary in most chain sub shops. I would go here over most other places, depending on time since it did take a little bit to build the sandwich but it did seem to make the difference.

#7 Turkey and Provolone with mayo and hot chopped pepper relish

Website Description: Provolone and Turkey. Our turkey sub is one of our most popular sandwiches. Our zero additives, 99% fat-free turkey breast and provolone is bursting with flavor. Get a giant, and don't forget to share!

Ordered this one due to a Reddit thread and again I was not disappointed by the internet. The turkey and provolone worked together well with the sandwich being done mikes way. The addition of mayo and pepper relish gave a little zing, creaminess, and spice to the sandwich that added complexity. I am surprised to say this would be the sandwich I would order over my standard Italian next time I walk through their doors.

It was over a 20 minute drive to get my subs all while passing many different chain sub shops including subway (would never, well maybe one day for you the reader I will venture in), Jimmy Johns, Jersey Giant, and a Penn Station East coast subs. The subs at Jersey Mikes can be best described as wet but flavorful and worth jumping through the hoops I jumped through to get them. I will be back for the subs and will defiantly be getting the rosemary bread as that will be on my mind for weeks to come.
