Big Burrito Review (Kalamazoo, MI)

Chips and Salsa

Ground Beef Taco

Mini Churros

This place inside is confusing, its casual yet has a sit down feel. Upon entering you are immediately at a counter where you place your order. Mine was simple, one loaded ground beef taco, chips and pico, and churros the order came in under eight dollars with a cup for water.

While you have to pay for the salsa and chips, it was well worth it especially at the price point for everything else. The chips made in house I am assuming as they shoveled them out of a big container below the counter. Good fry to them and salt coverage while varying was better than average. The salsa was stacked behind the counter in a fridge. The way it was stacked was uniform with each little bowl of salsa having another bowl on top upside down to protect it from foreign objects. The salsa had a kick, most likely from the fresh jalapeños, it was nothing crazy but I always appreciate a place that has a little kick.

The taco is sublime, it has everything an American taco should have, good ground beef that wasn't seasoned too much. Good cheese, the sour cream was whipped, veggies were fresh, and the double tortilla was a nice addition.

Churros are a treat no matter where you get them. Here they were an experience. When I use to come here with friends before soccer games it was one larger churro. It seems now they cut the churro up and call it mini churros (bites). The flavor is the same with the sweet pastry taste. The shape and groves somehow make it taste just a little bit better. My biggest question with churros is always how the cinnamon sugar is applied, do they throw the churro into a container? There is always a level of sugar that is too great for the sugar to just be sprinkled on.

This place has some nostalgia for me but it is rare in the way it actually outperformed the memories. The taco is great, the salsa is better than most places, and the churros are out of the park good.
