How do you make Pesto?

Pesto is a traditional sauce made from basil, pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, garlic, olive oil and salt. The ingredients are typically blended in a food processor until they form a smooth paste. The ratio of ingredients can be adjusted to taste, but the traditional recipe calls for equal parts basil and pine nuts, with a smaller amount of cheese, garlic and olive oil. Salt is added to taste. The sauce is traditionally served over pasta, but can also be used as a spread for sandwiches or as a topping for meats and vegetables.
