How is cheese made?

Cheese is made by curdling milk, which is done by adding bacteria or rennet to the milk. The process of making cheese can be broken down into several basic steps:

1 Milk is collected from cows, goats, sheep, or other animals.

2 The milk is then pasteurized to kill any harmful bacteria.

3 Bacteria or rennet is added to the milk, which causes it to curdle and separate into solid curds and liquid whey.

4 The curds are then drained and pressed to remove as much whey as possible.

5 The curds are then salted, shaped, and aged to create different types of cheese.

6 Some types of cheese, such as cheddar or gouda, may be further treated by heating and turning the cheese for several months to years.
