How do you make bagels?
To make bagels, you will need the following ingredients:
Active dry yeast
Sugar
Warm water
Salt
All-purpose flour
Optional toppings (e.g. sesame seeds, poppy seeds, salt, etc.)
Steps to make bagels:
Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water, let stand for 5-10 minutes to activate the yeast.
In a large bowl, mix salt and flour together.
Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
Using your thumb, make a hole in the center of each ball and stretch the dough to form a bagel shape.
Place bagels on a lined baking sheet and brush with egg wash.
Sprinkle with toppings if desired.
Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the bagels are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
Enjoy your fresh, homemade bagels!
